PTA Newsletter – March 2011
Dear all,
My apologies for the lack of a recent newsletter, but it has been a quiet time since the new year. We are now into what is traditionally the busiest time, and my thanks to all of you who are getting involved to bring together all the events that are happening between now and the end of the school year. Here is a quick run down of where we are and what’s coming up….
New Members – We would like to welcome four new PTA members since the last newsletter; Duncan Harvey, Richard Thomas, Meg Wiggins and Mary Burke.
Finances – The PTAs finances remain buoyant with there currently being approximately £35,000 in the bank, around £10,000 of uncommitted funds currently available with approximately £8,000 of additional income forecast during the remainder of this financial year. Considerable monies is currently being provided to the school as part of the centenary celebrations (£7,000) as well as funding having been provided this year for projects such as; the gardening club (£500), the foundation stage playground equipment (£15,000), Music Makers (£1,500), Christmas production of Rapunzel (£500) and the infant party (£500) to name a few.
Rugby Car Parking – The Six Nations continues with the next match at Twickenham being Sunday 13 March (England v Scotland), many thanks as always to all those who have volunteered to help. As you will all be aware rugby car parking is one of our best money making endeavours, so as there being no autumn internationals due to the Rugby World Cup taking place, we have decided to open up the car park for the following matches; Saturday 23 April (London Wasps v Bath), Saturday 7 May (Army v Navy), Saturday 28 May (The Aviva Premiership Final) and Sunday 29 May (England v The Barbarians). As always we will need volunteers, can I please ask if you can spare an hour to help please do so, it’s not difficult, its fun and is the main PTA fundraising activity. The first date we are looking for volunteers is Saturday 23 April.
Do you know by the PTA running a car park during the rugby season we are not just helping our children but we’re helping others as well. This year Twickenham Rugby Football Club asked if they could sell RFU raffle tickets during match days (with 10p of each ticket going to support the development of community rugby). As a result TRFC have been able to raise a considerable sum towards this worthy cause. Additionally, the Shooting Star Children’s Charity regularly set up a pitch outside the school gates and regularly walk away with buckets laden down with loose change.
Past Events:
The 2011 Christmas Fair – The Christmas Fair was a great success and raised over £2,000, with Santa even making a special visit to the school to meet the children and adults alike. As well as the regular PTA / school managed stalls, there were a number of external retailers selling a wide range of goods including confectionary, toys, jewellery, clothing etc.
Quiz Night: – The popular Fish & Chips Quiz night was a great success, with fun had by all who attended. Can I thank Pete Parkin for organising the event, David Gilbert for the testing questions and being the quiz master and everyone else who help set up the event and packed away.
Forthcoming Events:
Summer Fair – Plans are underway for the biggest event of the year. To be held on Saturday 11th June. This years fair will be special as it will be the finale to the schools centenary celebrations and as always with your help it will be a great event. More details will be sent out in the near future, but please put the date in your diaries. As always we will need volunteers, so if you could help, please do so. Year 6 Leavers Party – As in previous years, there will be a year 6 leavers party. Please watch this space for more details. Next PTA Meeting – On 3 / 4 May (to be confirmed) at 8pm in the Staff room - Look forward to seeing as many of you as possible, please come along and get involved.
