PTA Newsletter - July 19th 2007

Word Document

Dear Parents,

The end of another school year, and the end of a very successful year for the PTA, here is a quick update of what’s been happening since the last newsletter, and a round up of the year as a whole.

Summer Fair

I once again want to thank everyone who helped towards the success of the fair this year,  the official accounts are not yet in, but it is estimated that we raised approximately £3,500!  All the winners in the Grand Summer Draw have been notified and you can see a list of winners on the PTA website.  (www.nelsonpta.com).  If you have any comments regarding the summer fair, please contact me using the contact details below, or via the website.

School Disco

The school discos were, as ever, popular and great fun.  Many thanks to Coleen Norman once again and all who helped her put on a great night for the children.

Year 6 leavers party

This took place on Wednesday (18th July) and all the children had a fantastic time.  Many thanks to Katie Manku, Angela Pratt and Janette LeFever for organising a fun evening for the Year 6 leavers, and I would like to take the opportunity on behalf of the PTA to wish all the children every success as they move on to their next school.

Twickenham Event Parking

This remains our biggest fundraiser and we are indeed fortunate with our location to be able to raise money this way.  However, we couldn’t do it without your help, so my thanks to all those who regularly help out in the car park.  Many thanks to Bea Lindsay for her continued efforts in organising the rota and dealing with postal bookings.  Finally, a very special thank you to David Prout, who’s introduction of the online booking system, and continued maintenance of the Car Park website now means we sell out every car park in advance bringing in a much increased revenue.

There are 2 events over the summer holiday, on Saturday August 4th, and 11th.  If you can help for an hour at either of those events then please contact me as soon as possible.

PTA social evening

We held a drinks evening on Friday 29th June which was well attended and a great evening with nothing to arrange or discuss or vote on! (The only decision to be made was which Belgian beer to order!) Thanks to all who attended, and watch out for the BBQ get-together early next term.

Spending

A full list of what the money has been spent this year will be on the website in the near future.  In short however, we have spent approximately:-

£12,000 on IT, including 15 New computers, £4000 on books for new reading schemes, £1,800 on swimming subsidy, £500 on the Year 6 leavers party, £2000 towards the schools Book week  and £1100 on new rain/sun shelters for the playground.

We have also funded school trips and in-school theatre productions, and we gave £700 for the “Nutritious & Delicious” healthy foods week.

Going forward we have just approved a further £3,500 for more infant furniture, £7000 for a fantastic electric piano and recording system which will be of great benefit to the music department, and £400 towards a role play area for the infants.

And finally

On behalf of the PTA I would like to offer again my thanks to Sylvia & Denise in the school office who are always a great help to us.  Also to the school caretaker Dennis for his continued help throughout the school year. As you will probably know, Denis is retiring after 27 years and his presence at the school will be sorely missed.  Thank you Denis for all your help, good luck, and enjoy your retirement!

This has been a great year for the PTA and I hope we can get a few more of you along to our meetings in the new school year, we are sorry to be losing two members, Katie Manku and Angela Pratt, whose children leave the school – My thanks to them both for all their hard work over the years.

May you all have a great summer break, and I look forward to seeing you in September.
